Phone says text message memory full

I started getting this error off and on last night after I took my SD card out. Don't know if that had something to do with it.

Eureka!...well for now

Back again,
I just took out TV GUIDE app instead of WEATHER channel one, silly me, and lo and behold I got inundated with txt messages like crazy that were on hold!!
Now what to do,as I use that app everyday!? Crud! It was the one with the least crud and most user friendly..ah well, maybe I will re-install in a few days, experiment,etc..I like living dangerously..I walk a weird and funny path sometimes...
Hope it helps someone

A factory reset? Are you kidding me?? That's complete bull, and you say it like it's no problem at all. There are apps and songs that I had to pay for on my phone, AND I have stuff for school saved on it. So for you guys to tell us that we have to start our phones over from day 1 is unacceptable. Unless you guys plan on giving me FULL and free online backup or a refund on everything I've bought (with partial online backup) you had better come up with a reasonable solution.

You do know that a factory reset doesn't touch the memory card right? And your purchased apps ARE backed up in the market.

Calm down

You forget that the factory reset means you have to rebuild your mail configuration (as well as restore any data associated to applications - should you have a good back up). So I can understand the reaction.

I had the same problem. Tried everything ... dumping cache, deleting files, removing applicaitons. No change.

I figured my only option was do do a full reset of the phone. Fortunately I had my data backed up (using MyBackup by Rerware), but still spent a good hour getting the phone set up again.

I haven't seen the problem yet .. but it's only been a day since the reset.

My problem also arose ONLY after the 2.2 upgrade.

I started having this problem a couple nights ago. After trying multiple troubleshooting techniques (power cycle, removing battery for 30 seconds, deleting pictures/videos, moving apps, deleting my weather app) I'm at a complete loss. It's starting to get pretty frustrating so if there's any info I can provide to help people get this figured out, let me know.

After deleting my Weather Channel app I went from 16mb to 28mb on my phone storage. This still seems pretty low compared to some of you guys.

Memory problems

Noob here,

I have an original Moto Droid 1 (I heard that they don't even make these anymore) and have been having memory problems lately. It started a couple of weeks ago - I've taken the battery out and many times via advice but no good. I've deleted all of my threads in text and still comes up text memory full. I've deleted Lookout (Verizon rep said that should help). Anyway it was messed up for about a week, then one morning everything was fine, I started downloading some free apps (games) and now I have the same problem again. Text memory full (but it's empty) and low memory warnings.

I'm not able to delete / uninstall any apps though. I go to settings, apps, manage apps, select any of them, start uninstall and it just get's caught in a loop over and over, it's been 4 hours trying to delete a 1.19 MB file.

I'm temted to do the factory reset, but afraid I'll lose my phone contacts. Are they stored on the short term memory ? Is there a program out there to enable more of your apps to be saved to the SD card as I used app2sd, but it only would catch a small amount (about 15%). I've got over 12GB storage on SD card, and only 20.84MB on the internal memory - I'm thinking that this is the main problem - internal memory.

Any idea's, help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you....

I had the same text message memory notification happen to me. I was able to get rid of the message by cleaning up my external memory card, and then moving as many apps as I could from the phone storage to the SD card. As soon as I cleaned up enough internal memory all the backed up text messages flooded in. It's been working normally ever since.

Well I'm still looking for a solution to this for my wifes Droid1... I've got a Droid1 as well but have NEVER had a problem. I have cleaned cache's a zillion times... she has no SMS threads saved or anything. We both use Handcent SMS... we both use LauncherPro (I have the Plus version)... I installed accleaner on both phones to check that cache were cleared... both clear... that app shows her phone as having 31 applications on the phone and has only 27MB of phone memory left... I show 71 applications and have still have 80MB...

I've gone into her phone and deleted random, leftover files and folders from her SD card (as I do to mine periodically) but wonder if there is a way to do this to the on-board memory space. Any suggestions? I've never encountered an issue with shortage of memory. We have many of the same applications including Weather Bug Elite... I even keep a WB widget on my desktop at all times... updates regularly... The only thing that I KNOW for sure is that she DOES use a lot more text messages than I do on a regular basis... I'll use 300-400 a month, she'll use 3000-4000  sometimes more... maybe LOTS more.

I'm curious, does the Android system keep messages in a random cache somewhere on the phone... something like I've heard that even when you delete email from a PC, it is still there and can be somehow recovered? Could this problem have anything to do with using Handcent? Even though I use it too and maybe I just haven't had a problem since I use a fraction of the text messages that she does (and my time is coming)? Just weird that I have 80MB's left compared to her 27MB. And I have so many more apps...

If anyone has anything to add, please speak up... thanks!

having the same problem here with a moto droid 1, and I have neither the weather channel app nor the tv guide one. If y'all are still having problems we could see what apps we have in common?

The only thing that seems to work for me is saving my contacts via Google and not to the phone and clearing my Dolphin browser cache daily. Anytime I get the low memory warning, as soon as I clear my cache it goes away.

Cleared dolphin's cache and went from 12-15% internal memory left to 40% free. Good Lord, I'm going to have to make sure to do that more often.

problem solved!

i had the same problem. it was driving me crazy getting noti's like every five minutes. anyway, i was reading on here looking for advice, tried everything that was suggested, it did not work, kept tinkering with it, and low and behold figured it out. here we go, go to settings> applications> manage applications, (3rd from right, select) all> (scroll down, select) messaging > select force stop. this worked for me without restoring or deleting apps.

your welcome. ;)
