Phone dropping some contacts?

Second time...My Droid seems to alter and drop some of my contacts on its own? Someone shared with me a way to find and restore these missing contacts?

Contacts>settings>display options. make sure your Gmail and Facebook at checked. for Gmail make sure "all other contacts" are checked
