PC D1 and DX

I've got a DX and wanted to download some things to my wife's D1 ( my old rooted D1). The thing is that my PC is not seeing the Droid 1. Any ideas on fixes?

are you mount the SD card so the PC sees it as an external drive?

Yes. I removed the card and inserted it in the PC and accessed the card but I don't want to do this every time I need to do something. I placed the card back in the phone, connected it and it's still not seeing the phone.
