OTA update on Rezound

OK so now the firmware update is downloading and installing every day again.

I reboot every day before bed so I have a fresh os the next day.

The download begins after said reboot.

I am rooted but I haven't uninstalled or frozen anything as far as I remember.

Ideas?

Update.
This one is different.
It prompted me then rebooted into recovery.
It then tried to install something that failed.
I got the error
E error in
/cache/fumo/OTAPkg/zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.

I then have to manually reboot.

I did install Amon Ra recovery as part of the root process.

Any idea what's wrong or how to fix it?

Thanks.

First, the daily reboot probably isn't necessary and it also tells the OS to try to update again. I'd say deny the OTA and don't reboot it you can help it. As best as I remember nobody ever figured out how to stop the OTA other than using a ROM.

I use Titanium Backup to freeze the "Updater" app.
On my older Droid-X this was the way to avoid all OTA updates on a Droid X.

I have not (yet) received any notices of any OTAs on my HTC Rezound.

I am currently on 2.01.605.11 2.3.4 which came installed on the phone when I received it from Verizon.

Howard

That's the January OTA.

Well,

One way is to download from Scott the latest stock ROM - the RUU exe file.
Stock ROMS - Downloads - Scott's ROMS

Oops, Scott doesn't have the latest RUU as an exe file.
It is two zip files (the kernel is a separate zip file).

You'd definitely go back to factory defaults.

Personally, I've never done it.

I bet Mr. Smith has a better idea.

Doesn't wiping and reinstalling from the Amon Ra recovery put the Rezound back to factory specs?
It seems like it does.

Nope. You can actually pull recovery.img from an RUU zip and flash it over AmonRa. This will give you back stock recovery. Problem being that it has to match your current firmware. So if you're on stock GB, then you should be able to get it from Scottsroms.com . Once you do this it should let you complete the OTA if you want. I don't remember if it lets you do this unlocked or if you need to relock... Either way, you have this path, or go down the ROM'ing rabbit hole.

Hey, thank you, Sir.

Speaking of the ROMing rabbit hole

I finally learned and installed custom ROMs on my D1 and like it fine.
I'm hesitant to do that with the Rezound because it's so new, though certainly it will be outdated soon if not already.

Do we know yet if custom ICS ROMs are as good as the Verizon/Google version will be?
I've heard that installing a custom ROM will void my warranty.
Have I done that already by rooting my phone?

Thanks

Mr. Smith,

Now you've got me worried.
I downloaded a stock recovery file before I changed the phone to use Ramon RA recovery.
I figure someday I might want to take an OTA update.
Then I'd put back the stock recovery and relock the bootloader.

Now I am wondering if I have the right stock recovery for the latest 2.01.605.11 2.3.4 system?

The dreaded "Did this void my warranty" needs it's own thread lol. Yes you've voided your warranty for anything caused by unlocking which would include rooting and ROM'ing. Factory defects are still covered. I personally think our ICS ROMs are better than what we'll get from HTC/Verizon. We have Sense 4 ROMs, we have Desensed ROMs, basically we have stuff that they won't give us. So ... you decide.

I didn't mean to worry you.. If you have the RUU that matches your version number then you're cool. Here's the link from Scottsroms.com
[ZIP] - RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.02.605.6 - Downloads - Scott's ROMS

And, of course, debloated which we cannot get from Verizon.
Correct?

If I install yours
1 - Can I contribute to your efforts?
2 - Will Verizon still try to push the OTA to me?
3 - Can I go back to factory specs and take Verizon's OTA if I so choose?

Thank you, Sir, for your time and efforts.

Reading this thread has me a little concerned since I just unlocked/rooted/de-bloated my phone. Anybody know what will happen when the ICS OTAs come out? Will I even receive the update? Will it ruin anything? At this point I don't really care about getting an official update. Once it comes out I'll just install one of the new ROMs which will probably be better anyways. Right now I'm on the stock ROM, and just manually deleted a bunch of files. I don't even have the "Software Update" option in my Settings menu.
