OS update

Being new to the Android family, do these updates just appear on your phone when you turn it on, or do i need to connect via USB to do so? Coming from a BB background and we had to connect to update.

Also, dumb question, can one delete more than one email at a time from the Inbox, or only from Trash? I use this phone for my work email and sometimes we send out large amounts of email, for which I get a ton of OOO replies and would like to delete them all together from the Inbox.

I have a Droid so my experiences may be diffeerrnt.

The updates for my apps and OTA from VZW appear automatically in my notification bar. To install I pull the notification bar down and tap.

I use the K9 email app. It allows me to delete multiple emails.
