Still hanging on to that aging Motorola Droid? Feels weird not having a number or surname after the “Droid” title but if you’re still waiting for a price drop on that superphone you’ve been eying, you may want to try out Android 4.0 in the meantime. Apparently, Ice Cream Sandwich has come a long way since we first saw an early port squeezed into the device back in December. Don’t believe me? Just check out the video below and see for yourselves.

The ROM comes courtesy of Kabaldan over on XDA Developers and although this build is still considered an alpha release, it’s nowhere near as alpha as that one port making the rounds a few months ago. If your OG Droid is rooted and you feel like throwing a new ROM for old time’s sake, just hit up the link below for the thread on XDA.

wow..the good ole d1. Loved that phone. Looking at it now though its hard to believe how well I managed with such a bad touchscreen. eeek.

Cool that its running ICS!

should be noted that this is more for the gsm milestone, rather than the cdma "droid"...dunno what differences there may be, but sure there's bound to be a few
good story though, i cant wait till ics is finished on the droid

That's very impressive. As rowdyguy124 said, when they have a finished build I may have to pull the OG out of the droor and throw this on it. Handles the OS a lot better than I'd thought it would; kind of makes you wonder why they never went forward with Gingerbread. This sort of reminds me of the videos where people take old computers from the early 2000's or earlier and load Windows 7 on it, just for the hell of it. It's cool to see that they're making software nowadays that is stable enough to run on older hardware.

The OG Droid is a true classic; a classic never dies! Most tech becomes scrap in a pile but the OG Droid is a true marvel. I'm still rockin' my OG Droid since 2009 and while on occasion is does show it's age it's still an awesome device overall. It's a shame we can't upgrade the hardware as easily as we can the software. I'm going to look closely at the Droid 4 whenever it finally gets released but I'll never get rid of my OG Droid.

*Looks like the XDA site is down for maintenance*

I imagine the success of the OG Droid was great for Motorola in the beginning but may actually be hurting them now. Perhaps that's why so many of their newer phones aren't quite as good. Like the old saying goes, "They don't make them like they used to."

That looks nice....Makes me wanna return my Galaxy Nexus:hail:DancingNexus just no HDMI out only thing stopping me. I love my OG DROID just can't stand Motorola stuff anymore (non removable battery & locked bootloader).

This is cool and all, but I'm not going back to my OG Droid for daily use. However, I have since given my Droid to my kids to play games on, and watch movies.

No, XDA actually joined the blackout. Lol!

It will not die:hail:

I would flash it, but just let a friend have it as a loaner.
