OFFICIAL Droid X 2.2 Solutions/Issues Thread

Gmail/ battery issue/fix?

After I downloaded 2.2 I started having issues with my home email program and gmail. It started telling me that I had too many connections and it would shut down the email on my home computer. BTW I use K9 on my Droid X. In order to get around this, I moved gmail APK to my SD card, so it would not be connecting along with K9 and my home email. After this, my battery life was TERRIBLE and my battery also started getting VERY hot all of the time. I moved gmail back to apps and all is fine. In order to get around the email issue, I just told it not to sync my emails under the account settings. Battery now is back to status-quo from before update.

let me just say this....DON'T, i mean DON'T, hack the Droid X.....bricked mine after trying to remove FlyX and go back to Eclair....fortunately, i had insurance thru Best Buy which got me a new phone.....if anybody says there's an SBF file to recover, they're full of crap! And since this is considered an "issue" as far as i'm concerned, i'm posting it here

Radom Picture when putting contact on home screen.

Is anyone else having this problem? On most of my contacts when I got to put that contact on a home screen, it puts the correct contact info just picks randomw pictures from other contacts for the widget picture.

Lots of issues with the 2.2???? It sure sounds like. Now, I still have not gotten the opportunity to update my DX. Im still unavailable to do so. Had the phone for 10 days about.

does someone know how to force install or do i just not want to do that?

Menu button-> settings-> about phone -> system updates

Yes I have been doing this since the day it came out. I STILL CANNOT UPDATE MY PHONE!!!!! PISSING ME OFF!!!

My only Issue 5 days running Froyo - M Screen of Death

OK after running Froyo for about 5 days now the one constant issue I have is that I can't turn off the phone and turn it back on without waiting for about 2 minutes with it off. If I turn it off and back on immediately I get the M (Motorola) symbol on the screen and it does not go beyond that. If I wait for about 2 mins and then turn it back on it seems to work.

Is this happening to everyone? Is this a reason to swap out the phone?

Contact picture problems.

Will someone else try putting a contact on one of the homepages and see if it comes up with someones elses picture on it? Not a short contact just a regular contact so that you see all of their info.
Shortcuts / Contact / is the step I am using.
I want to find out if it is just my phone only that is doing this.
Thanks

I dont have too many avatars for my contacts but of the two that I tried out, one worked and another didn't. I tried it again and the same thing happened with the same contacts. So you aren't alone.

But oddly enough when using the Moto contact widget, I did not have the same issue.

Is a factory reset required to be done after the update??

Ever since I've gotten the update my phone has been a bit buggy in terms of freezing up here and there for a few seconds then resuming. Also noticed the screen does not toggle horiztonally and vertically as quickly as it did before....will a factory rest fix all this???

Edit - also noticed teh camcorder doesn't work now wtffffff thougth this update was supposed to make thigns easier not worse??

Updated to 2.2 and now using my car stereo controls via bluetooth no longer advance songs using pandora or slacker as it did with 2.1. I'm stuck using the phone to skip songs, any one else have this issue. The phone pairs and connects fine just lost all controls....

Screen Shrunk?

Just updated to 2.2 and after the re-boot my screen is now smaller than before? Anyone else seeing anything like this?

It isn't a huge difference, but the last few pixels on each side of the screen are dark, and everything just looks shrunk down (nothing is cut off). Can't be more than a mm or two on each side, but it just looks different than what I'm used to.

Tried re-booting a few times and pulling the battery, but no luck.

I noticed on update that there is a strange little window showing on the top screen. switching back from screen a new window opens at top if I go from far left screen to far right and return home. I tap but nothing happens, anyone know what the little window is with dots and arrows? almost look like the quick screen at bottom but smaller.

Frozen after install

Downloaded the update manually, hit Install and my phone rebooted ... and hung on the Motorola logo. Would not turn off, would not keep going. The green LED would flash when the screen was blank, but nothing else. Removed/installed battery- same thing. Put the phone in my holster, then at 1pm realized an alarm was going off! Still same screen, green LED, nothing else; would not turn off by holding the power button. The alarm would snooze, but kept coming back.

Got home, took battery out and left it for 30+ minutes. When I put it back in, phone booted up fine; everything appears to be in order. I do have v2.2.

Any ideas? Did this happen to anyone else?

Yes this is happening to quite a few users. When the battery is removed it needs to be left out for at least 1 min. This should address the issue for 99% of the cases.

My symptoms are the same but how I got there is a little different. I went to "About this phone>updates", got the screen informing me 2.2 was available, and selected to download. Figuring it would take awhile I took the dogs for a walk. Half hour later I found my phone with just the Motorola logo showing, and shortly, the screen went dark. I never saw the screen with the "Install" button. I don't know if 2.2 installed or not; I figure _something_ happened to hang my phone.

Repeatedly tried restarting; button did nothing. Finally saw this thread, tried removing the battery for five minutes or so. Restarted, got the red eye for a long time, then a desktop screen (empty), then the Droid restarted, came up to a desktop showing my collection of icons. But the screen was frozen. I waited, finally, it went dark again. Plugging in to power caused the screen to show up again, but still frozen. Finally, screen went dark and stayed that way.

Repeated battery removal, ran through same sequence. Am stymied.

Any ideas?

You know I was looking at my phone at work earlier and I noticed that too. I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. I really couldn't remember if it was like that in 2.1. And also I've noticed that quite a few things (images/videos) don't appear to be as crystal clear as they were before. Kind of pixelated almost. I checked the build.prop and the lcd density is the same as it was before. Dunno what could be causing this. First thing I thought of was maybe the layout got changed in an xml file somewhere.
Damn, this actually is annoying to me!

I can't stand the new keyboard layout...the punctuation is at the top now.

I got used to hitting the "Period" key Once for period, twice for comma, and 3 times for "..."
Now I have to reach up to do that. It's great that they added the "?" and "!" up there, but did they have to remove the Period's multi-functionality?
Annoying

Update: This morning, heard my phone playing my wakeup alarm. Took a look, and it looked "normal." Turned off alarm, had the desktop, all was functioning normally. Used phone to make two calls. Went to an appointment and powered the phone off to avoid interruption during interview. After, powered on...and it has hung on the Motorola logo ever since. Tried calling from another phone; my phone rang, and I could hear the caller (a friend), but screen continued to show only the logo. Am back to square one.
