How can I change notifications for sms and email to sounds that I have downloaded? All that I can use are the ones that are in the root directory. I have downloaded some sounds from Zedge but when I try to change the notifications it does not give me the option to use a sound from Zedge.

Install handcent sms. I know that sounds strange but it has an expanded notification picker in it. When you go to choose your ringtone it will ask you to use system or handcent and choose handcent and you can get all the ringtones.
