Notification sounds keep changing

Im completely baffled on this.. my notification tone (for gmail) keeps changing by itself. I set it only for it to change to one of my mp3s that was never a tone set before...wth is going on?

I have never had issues with my notifications, but I have had that with my ringtones. My custom tones would just drop off.

My only solution was to put my custom tones in /system/media/audio/

That only works however if you are rooted, and outside of that, I am not fully sure what causes the problem, or how to fix it, only that workaround.

My notifications aren't changing but they do keep going silent... Very annoying.
