not getting FB or forum notifications

hi all..for some reason im no longer getting any FB updates of anykind and the various forums that im on no longer alert me to any thread up dates..very annoying and time consuming..any idea how i can fix this?

Do you have syncing enabled? I cant remember what the exact term is but on the power control widget it is the circular arrows. I know that will give you gmail notifications and I'm pretty sure it's the same with facebook and such.
