Although this definitely seems like a toy for people with money to burn, the concept is still intriguing. It's called the Nod gesture ring, and for the "bargain" [sarcasm intended] price of $149 it will basically turn your ringer into an input device. You can use it as a mouse, a pointer, and/or a virtual remote touch input for a variety of things.
It doesn't tell the time, or help you with health statistics... it basically just converts your finger into a remote. Here's a quote with a few more details,
Nod is a Mountain View start-up with talent from Apple, Samsung, Jawbone, Google and several other tech giants and has funding provided by Menlo Ventures, Sequoia Capital and a few other well-known backers.
The Nod utilizes Bluetooth LE, comes with a charging cradle that works as a ringer holder, has 12 different size options and offers all-day battery life. Where the Nod really sets itself apart, however, is its ability to utilize micro-gestures that allow it to recognize a variety of different motions including subtle brushes, swipes, rotation of your fingers and more. You also have the ability to use the Nod as a pointer device with control accuracy that seems to rival even a traditional mouse. ~ AndroidAuthority
The video is definitely worth checking out. We can't see this becoming a main-stream consumer product until the price comes down considerably, but we can imagine that it might take off eventually as early adopters drive the price down. We can even envision some combination of this mixed with an Xbox One Kinect 2.0 style camera could make for a very "Minority Report"-like UI of the future. What do you guys think?
