No Text Notification When in Text Thread

If I leave my phone screen on a continuing text thread, I do not get a notification when a new text arrives. If I exit out of the thread I will receive the notification. Is anyone else having this problem?

I've been having the same issue ever since I upgraded to 2.2. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Welcome to the forums to both of you. Are you both on the stock text app? I believe its a setting within the text app itself.
