no text audio alert?

Hi, I've had my droid since the week after launch and it has been relatively issue free. I know how to adjust the ringer and notification volume settings and have done so repeatedly.

Recently I noticed I had stopped getting audio alerts to text messages. I still get vibrate alert and the flashing LED indicator.

I dont get a lot of voicemails so Im not sure if that notification is working or not.

I had audiomanager installed long before the issue arose, thought it may be interfering, and uninstalled it. No change.

When I select my notification ringtone/alert, it plays fine. I have tried selecting several different alerts, but it still doesnt go off when I get a text.

I've done several power off/battery out restarts and the issue persists.

Short of a full system restore to factory, does anyone have any suggestions?

Phone ringer, alarm, etc. work fine.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

Forgot to mention that intermittently, say 1 out of 10 times, the audio alert for text works, just out of the blue.

I think you probably know what you're doing, I would go with a factory reset. Probably an app causing a problem.

I get maybe 1 audio alert every 10-20 texts...I always get the popup in the notification bar, the blinking green LED, and the vibration.

I dont have email routed to my phone and I dont often get voicemails, so I am not sure if those audio alerts are working right or not.

Is there a writeup floating around here for backing up stuff from the phone?

Would I need to interact with verizon after said reset?

MyBackup on the market
but be wise in what u choose to backup - ie backup an app and that apps causing the problem

and you shouldnt have to contact them

-----------------
or just backup your contacts and text
gmail lets you backup your contacts and download smsbackup to set that up with gmail too

My back up is okay..

I prefer to use Nandroid backup because it even backs up.."Protected" apps.
