No 3g connection

So I recently purchased a used droid (the original droid) from ebay; activating it with my existing Verizon account for the most part worked fine, except for 3g (yes, I do have a data plan, and yes data is enabled in settings). While I can make voice calls perfectly fine, no 3g icon displays in the notification bar and I have no internet access. I've tried most of the usual stuff like restarting, pulling the battery, factory resetting, and going through the *228 stuff, but nothing seems to work (I've also sat through verizon's tech support and they couldn't find a solution). I'm assuming it might just be a problem with the phone and I'm probably going to try returning it, but I was just wondering if there any other things I could try?

Try putting the device in airplane mode, and then taking it out. This will sometimes do the trick.
