New virtual keyboard coming to Android

MessageEase Keyboard - how about a port to the droid?

I used the keyboard from the link below on my old WinMo phone, in portrait mode when the keyboard has to be small it was excellent, in a few days I got faster and more accurate than on the QWERTY layouts. It took some getting used to, its very different, but by using swipes instead of taps for many characters the chances for typos was greatly reduced because the starting area for any gesture was very large. It looks like it would be too big a learning curve, but the most frequently used letters are just taps on the 9 large squares. I guess this post is no help to us Android users since this keyboard is not out for the Droid. But I'm going to email them and ask about it, if enough interested parties do that maybe they'll bite!

I'm actually pretty happy with the virtual keyboards that the Droid came with but I'm always willing to try others. Especially if its free (kinda doubt it).

Thanks for the heads up on this, i'm willing to give it a try if it's not too much $$... I don't think it's going to be free since the owner of the concept is after money here and nothing more.

Okay... this is out in the market. It is selling for 3.29 us dollars. I have downloaded it and am typing this post using it.

Here are my first intial thoughts of it....
As for typing experience in landscape! It is amazing! The spacing of the keys is perfect. It really does make it super easy to type on with very little mistakes.
In portraite mode... not so much. The keypad is way to small. And i have small hands.

There is some features missing though. I like heptic feedback on the keyboard and there is no option for it. Eventhough auto correct is supposed to be here it is not working. Double tap on the space bar does not insert a period. And the color scheme could be better to really make the keys or letters pop. It really needs some more work and in a update or two could be a real good alternitive for a full time keyboard. In its current state, I do not think it is worth the money. But i am going to keep anyways.

Thanks for experimenting and the report gixxerjoe. The missing features you cite make it a non-starter for me. I'm curious whether the landscape keyboard would be as useful for somebody with larger hands.

Thanks again for trying it and reporting.

and how is this supposed to be any better? a triangle is smaller than a square. I don't see this working well.

I concur. Wouldn't this, theoretically, make typing HARDER? Isn't less surface space a bad thing, especially with fat-fingered folk?

Think of your finger as a "circle", with fat fingers you have a larger "circle". When typing the center of the finger (circle) may be centered on the key, but the outer part of the "circle" is overlapping in the middle (widest part of finger) on the adjoining key(s) causing a mistype.

With a triangular key like this system the fatest (widest) part of the finger(center cross section of circle) doesn't over lap to the adjoining keys (there is nothing there), YET the smallest diameter part of the finger(circle) is at the very top on the widest part of the key in this cause and therefore doesn't overlap on the adjoining keys.

Make sense? Probably not, but it is hard to explain without drawing it out for you with a picture.

I think it is a smart idea, BUT I would want to know if the keyboard keys change "function" like the original keyboard. For, example when doing a search does the "seach" icon key show up on the lower right, or the "done key" etc.

AH. This makes total sense, actually. I guess if you think of your finger like a foot, where a small portion makes contact before the whole thing, this restricts only that point from making contact with a key. The "spread out" part of your finger makes contact with black space, which prevents you from hitting another key.

Thanks for clearing that up!
