New to Droid X with an issue

I cannot get my droid x to install on my laptop. I asked the Verizon guy in the store and he told me to remove all the programs and drivers about the Blackberry Storm (previous phone) and try again. It didn't work. I've searched all over but cannot find any suggestions.

What do you mean by install?

Download drivers and apps so my computer will talk to my phone. It tells me that the device is unrecognized and asks if I have an installation CD.

Are you sure you've installed the correct drivers? I know there are a bunch of differen't install options when you choose to install them.

I have no clue. I plug my phone into the computer via usb. I get a message that it is installing drivers. After a couple of minutes it tells me that it couldn't find them and asks if I have an installation CD, if I want to search the internet, or if I want to browse. Nothing seems to work.
