I don't know where to start with what to download and configure first. Can anyone point me to a useful list or post what they consider must have apps?

I hope you don't have anything else planned!

Take a look in the apps section of the forums. There are some stickies up top that should help get you started.

There is an app section on the forum here. Check out threads where people list their top 5 or 10 favorites. That's what I did and I found a bunch of cool stuff! Also, check out droidxforums.com

thanks, I will give those a look. Mainly I am looking for how to protect the phone from malware, viruses, apps to replace bad stock ones... I will dig around the forums more, sorry for being lazy :-)

As of right now, there is not much of a Virus/malware risk associated with Android or anyother smart phone for that matter.

Now when cell phones start to replace computers, like they have landline phones, then we'll have an issue I'm sure.

But right now, the AV apps tend to create more problems than they fix.

As for apps that replace bad stock ones, I know many people use ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro to replace the Blur (Moto) launcher. Personally, I rather like the Blur launcher on the X2.

LauncherPro, Netflix, bloatfreezer (root), are some good ones to check out.

Beautiful Widgets is nice too. If you're an Amazon member already with a card on file, it would be worth your time to download the Amazon app market for the free app of the day.

Hey! I am a new user to the DX2 as well. A mountain of difference coming from the LG Vortex. Anyhow, I have been using Launcher Pro Plus for a while and it is honestly a good way to start optimizing your phone. I noticed that the qHD has a significantly higher resolution and this app will help you fit more widgets/etc on your homescreen and the whole look and feel is very slick. As far as other apps, I can't say that I use a lot or have any favorites.

Good luck!
