it really depends on the email address. the stock email app does not like to work with my school email as well, but im sure that there are apps in the play store if you look around a bit.
Does your school's email address end in @nameofschool.edu? I set up my son's school email for him on his rezound and did get it to work. Unfortunately I installed ICS and did an fdr so I don't have the settings easily available. I do have to set it up again, so when I slow him down long enough to nab his phone again, I will report back what the steps and server settings are.
I'm in college now and I went trough that same issue.... you want to use a corporate account. But you need the schools domain name so call the schools tech support and they should be able to help you from there. Mine looks like this on the incoming settings.......
The only issue with it being forwarded to your Gmail account would be replying to the messages some schools spam messages that aren't straight from the schools.
I got it half set up... am able to receive emails but unable to send an email from the edu address. This is what I have done to receive for edu email address:
-set up as an imap email
-input your school email address and your password.
-manual set up.
-input your user name (do not add the @school.edu part)
-imap server (or incoming server) is imap.school.edu (where school is whatever your school uses for @????.edu)
-Security type: SSL
-Server port: 993, should be automatic.
-Outgoing server settings: check Login required.
-username should be automatic but same as incoming settings username.
-password should also be automatic.
-SMTP server: smtp.school.edu (where school is whatever your school uses for @????.edu)
-security type: SSL
-Server port: 465, should be automatic.
you will most likely get an error, but press continue and you will at least be able to receive your school email. You may have to be connected to the school's Wi-Fi or have the school set up the outgoing servers to be able to send email from your school email.
