New phone did not import my old apps

I've changed several Verizon smart phones in the last year and they ALWAYS automatically installed all my old applications. I don't know how it does it, but as soon as I activate my google account it would always download and reinstall all my old applications such as handcent, paypal, ebay, bankatlantic etc for about 30 different apps.

Now with the new Razr phone, I spent a week trying to remember all the apps and reinstall them as I remembered them. Also, as part of troubleshooting my lack of 4G service, I was told to do a phone reset which of course deleted everything from the phone. Now again, I lost ALL my applications. What the F_CK!

I'm lost as to the whole point of google "sync". All it synced was my contacts list. Not one of my apps is synced.

Any ideas what I did wrong?

[FONT=&quot]1. Make sure Backup and Restore are checked in the Privacy setting. 2. When going through the setup after the reset, turn on wifi as soon as you can (assuming it is available). 3. After you have entered your Gmail account info, you will be presented with a screen that has two check boxes. Basically they are "Do you want Google to backup and restore this phone”. Make sure you check both of those. 4. Open the Market app and accept the market terms.

Good luck

Also, as noted above, go to the Android Market on your computer and make sure your new Razr is listed as one of your phones. Once logged in go to My Library, click on the Gear in the top right corner of the screen, select the My Account options and then the settings tab. Your Razr should be listed there with your previous phones. Also, all of your apps should be listed in the My Library section. If these things aren't right, check their help section.

I also went through several Droids, and like you I experienced the pleasure and simplicity of the apps self-installing after activating the new phones. Unfortunately this "feature" is apparently not incorporated into the RAZR. I am not totally sure if it still works the same way with other Android phones anymore, and it could very well be a symptom of the new Market, rather than the new RAZR, but I did contact Verizon Technical Support and the indication they gave me is that the apps will not self-install from the Market on the RAZR the way they did on my Droid 1 and Droid 2.

To say I was disappointed is an understatement but the method described by Verizon was to use the Market and go to the "My Apps" menu and there you will find all the apps that you had installed previously, but you have to actually go into each and re-install one by one. A drag to say the least.

Find an app called listables and you can back up your app list there, it emails to yourself, you open the email and it shows each app you had with a link to each in the market. open the email right from your phone and it is easy to install each app.

That's a great workaround and I wish I had known it before. Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely add that to my repertoire. :icon_ lala:

As mentioned above, there is an option that you must select when activating the phone and authorizing it with Google. It is actually Google that is handling the function, but the phone must tell Google to do this or it will not. In the RAZR, the selection is there, but for some reason it doesn't work the same way as on my D1 and D2.
