New Email notification

I'm sure this has been addressed before, but I couldn't find it. I have my hotmail email linked to my Eris. The notification works fine, but when I read my email on my PC, it will not show the email as read on my Droid.

Is this normal? My Droid says I have 73 emails, but I have read all of them.
