Need the Expert Help

I was one of the many that updated to 588. I thought/was led to believe this was the official update.

Well, fought the problems with the Synch staying on all the time.. Factory Reset took care of that.

Now it does not appear that the OTA will work with 588 installed.

Someone please tell me what I need to do in order to get off this 'bastard' version of Gingerbread.

very simple...sbf back to froyo then accept the OTA. To my knowledge you cant root the official OTA. If you want the OTA rooted you can go to MyDroidworld and download 596 deodexed, since you're already on 588 all you have to do is load the deodexed 596 through clockwork and you would be good to go. Hope that helps
