My Screen Shattered

I'm not sure how or why but my screen completely shattered. There is a significant pressure point right where the earpiece is and cracks spread from there throughout. I tried jogging my memory to see where/why/how this happened and the only explanation is that I slammed the car door onto it while it was sagging in my loose fitting gym shorts. But I checked the scene after the fact and there is a good 6 inches from the seat to the door so this is unlikely.

I took it to the local Verizon store and they offered me a couple "deals." I could either buy it at the one year price with three accessories, which would have totaled to almost $400 or buy it at full retail price.

As a college student, there was no way this was an option so they offered to call Customer Service for me and they offered me a Like-New full body replacement for $50. Compared to the previous "deals" this was a no-brainer.

Moving on, how can I prevent such disasters in the future? A protective case couldn't prevent this issue since it was clearly a screen defect.

Asurion Insurance plan wouldn't be a preventative measure, but certainly a good idea for future replacements.

Screens don't just go "BAM!" Broken. In order to keep your new phone from getting a cracked screen be more careful with it? Get a hard case, too.

Right, but the pressure point is right at the ear slit which appears to be extremely vulnerable. I was very careful with my phone and I haven't dropped it in the two months that I've had it. Needless to say I was very upset at the flimsiness of the screen.

How would a hardcase protect the screen from breaking? I dont see hardcases protecting against more than scratches unless they are made of a very strong material..

There's also SquareTrade warranties. I have them for most of my electronics after a good experience on an earlier LG phone bought off eBay. They usually have coupons that you can find on the net, too.

Aliens crept into your room at night while you were sleeping. They broke it and returned it. See everyone wants a DROID. :icon_ banana:
