My D3 won't connect to my laptop

So I plug my phone into my laptop and my phone starts charging, but the box doesn't pop up in the notification bar saying I am connected to a computer. It usually has no problems connecting to this exact computer. I have restarted the phone a couple of times, restarted my laptop, and tried 2 different data cables. I was really hoping to get the Steel Droid rom tonight

Couldn't be that u have 'software install' setting disabled, could it? I mean it should connect regardless, I think.

Just throwing it out there as a possibility. Good luck.
