My android is dying on me! Turn on mass storage mode remotely to save data?

Hi all,

I own a Samsung Galaxy S. Yesterday out of a sudden the OS started rebooting, but instead o f going back to work it entered a vibrating-not responsive-loop.
I can turn it off and on but the same thing always happens. It just starts vibrating and the screen does not respond.
I suppose I will have to try the factory reset, but my problem is I haven't made backups recently (I know I'm stupid!!) and I would like to retrieve my photos and some data on some Apps. As the phone does not respond I cannot turn on the Mass Storage Mode, so my computer doesn't see it and my apps in the computer also don't see it.
Suggestions?
Is there a way to force the Mass Storage Mode so I can at least try to copy my stuff?
If I do the factory reset all will be lost, right?
Thanks!
