multiple mail notifications

I am getting multiple email notifications. I started using the Gmail app and am still getting notifications from the default mail app. How do I stop the default notifications?

I am getting multiple email notifications. I started using the Gmail app and am still getting notifications from the default mail app. How do I stop the default notifications?

I find that after I get notifications for email on my Droid and if I go into my mail via my laptop/desktop computer and delete a lot of messages from the email server, that the Droid seems to get all confused and keeps giving repeated notifications for new messages that are not new. I acknowledge them as read but continue to receive notifications until I delete the offending emails from the Droid. This happens on my email client that is not gmail.
