Motorola Spills the Beans on Moto X Landing Page

I guess the folks at Googorola were just too excited to wait any longer. Motorola opened up their website and shared the full specs and release dates for the new Moto X. They also indirectly confirmed that the pricing will not be the $300-350 off contract that rumors suggested it might. The phone will sell on all of the major U.S. carriers for $199.99 on a new contract for the 16GB version and $249.99 for the 32GB option. This would suggest that the off-contract pricing would be the usual $500-600 price range.

The specs revealed are exactly as we shared in our previous story. The device will launch in late August at the earliest, with some carriers getting it in September. It will come with enough customization options that it amounts to over 2000 different combinations.

*Speaking of the customization options, there is some unclear information passing around right now that the customization options will be exclusive to AT&T. From Motorola's website there doesn't appear to be any indication or confirmation of this, so for now we will call it "rumor." Of course, we will continue to investigate this to make sure we get the facts straight.

Update: We have some additional info to share. The customization option for the Moto X has a name. It's called MotoMaker and it turns out that it will initially be exclusive to AT&T. MotoMaker will eventually come to the other U.S. carriers, but there is no word on when that might happen.

Update 2: The off contract price will be $575 for the 16GB version and $630 for the 32GB version. It looks like the 32GB version will be a temporary AT&T exclusive at first too.

Here's a link to the Motorola landing page where you can sign up for more info on the new Moto X: Motorola Mobility LLC. USA

I'm guessing only AT&T will have MotoMaker (or for the time being) but the 18 different color options will be available from every carrier. Anyone know if this is correct?

as far as customizing the backplate goes... that cant be at&t exclusive... they're just backplates.
what is this 'motomaker' referring to?

There's a video on MotoMaker on the front page. What it essentially is, is the ability to customize almost every aspect of the phone. But then it also looks like there are also 18 different stock color options (which seem to be the same colors in MotoMaker).

So I'm not sure if MotoMaker is just letting you make the backplate blue, frontplate green, and the "accents" yellow and that's the only way to get different colors other than white and black. Or if carriers will be carrying each of the 18 options in store.

With the exception of AT&T the X will be available only in White and Black on all the carriers. Verizon will get MotoMaker "later this year." As far as MotoMaker being available on T-Mo, Sprint and US Cellular there's still no word from them.
