Motorola Shadow

I'm pretty confident the new processor will churn out much better performance than the current OMAP. Not just slightly but significantly.

Specs:

OMAP™ 3 Processors - OMAP36x

Not to mention the Second-Generation SmartReflex™ Power and Performance Management Technologies

Problem is, the 3430 chipset has a nearly identical feature set. The only difference being clock speeds (3430@600 Mhz stock, 3630@720mhz/1ghz? stock) and HD video encode/decode.

What I'm rooting for is a higher clocked GPU.

The only performance benefits you will see from the 36xx over the 34xx is better power management and HD Encode/Decode. The actual processor core is identical so aside from the difference in clock speed there really is no discernable difference. If you were to put an equally clocked 3430 and 3630 next to one another the difference, if any, would be non-existent.

I'm predicting exactly the opposite. The 3630 is essentially just a 3430 with a die shrink to 45nm. So it will run cooler and draw even less power from the battery, but otherwise will deliver identical results.

There is a video floating around on youtube that purports to show a big difference between the 34x and 36x series of OMAP chips. However, what few are catching is that the "test" is rigged. The 36x OMAP CPU is running with a substantially faster GPU... and the test is, guess what... a graphics benchmark! Of course the 36x series will deliver better results!

The specs on the Shadow mean it will be in the same class as the Droid and Incredible. So it'll be a good phone, but nothing that changes the game.

Darkseider I should have clarified my statement. You are correct. Clock for clock they will perform pretty much the same. I was talking out of the box (assuming it's clocked higher)

But the gPU is a nice step up

This is exactly what I've been trying to validate, and pretty much the only thing that I care about. The OMAP 3xxx series is powerful to stay relevant at least until Q4 2011 (did you hear about wireless -N?). Screw the snapdragon hype.

Can you link where you got the GPU info from?

Lools good why August that's going to take so long

Hardware change.

Don't ask what kind neither : ) no one is saying.

Xtreme/Shadow looks pretty stout

Perfect timing from Verizon!! This could give the EVO 4G a run for its money!

Here is another quick run down of the features/specs:

1. Tablet form-factor
2. 4.1" TFT FWVGA screen
3. Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 Processor
4. 2GB-4GB built in memory
5. Android 2.1, with soon-to-follow upgrade to 2.2
6. Moto BLUR with updates such as BLUR community chat
7. 8 MP camera
8. 720p recording
9. 1080p output via HDMI port
10. ~9mm thick
11. Releasing in July

ERRRRRRRRRRR TRY AGAIN....... Not sure where you got those but they are incorrect.

I updated OP...

4.1" screen, OMAP 3630, 8 GB Internal, 8 GB MMC, 8MP camera and HDMI out.

Looks good Ive known about the hardware change read it the day op posted it. Just sucks because its a phone I would happily retire my Droid for big and thin nit to wide just going to be a hard time waiting after seeing it. But the specs posted were pretty close minus the 8gb of internal memory and release date. But with the wait let's hope this beast releases with froyo
