we got an update for the d4. it seems like a bugfix to me. So far 4g seems to be more stable after the update, the ui is def smoother, and the unit is running cooler.
*No root required.

*We have been told that Voodoo Rootkeeper will keep root and that other root methods work as well after updating.

1. Download the file to the root of your SD card.
2. Turn phone off.
3. Press both Volume keys and Power at the same time to get to the bootloader menu.
4. Scroll down to “Recovery” and press Volume Up to select it.
5. When the Android and exclamation mark appear, press both Volumes at the same time.
6. Scroll down to “apply update from sdcard” and select it with Power.
7. Scroll down to “Blur_Version.6.13.215.XT894.Verizon.en.US.zip” and select it.
8. Watch the update install. Reboot when it finishes and enjoy!

i personally had verification problems during the patch so i replaced all deleated apks, odexes and build.prop and it worked fine
directions:
1.root your phone. and voodoo rootkeep it.
2.install root explorer.
3.copy the needed files to your sd card(apk, odex)
4.navigate to /system/app with root explorer
5.change the folder to rw from ro
6.copy the odex and apk from your sdcard to /system/app
8.change the folder back to ro
7.change permissions of the odexs and apks to rw-r-r
9.copy build.prop to /system/ with root explorer
10.change permissions to rw-r-r
11.reboot and flash the update

Just received update

I just got a message saying this update was available. Would it make sense to unroot, apply the update, then root again, instead of following these procedures?

It is not known if the current root methods work with the update. And with no sbf if the root method does not work you will be stuck without.

Root DOES work after the update. And if root doesnt work then you dont get root, no need for fastboot files if root fails.

Also is the build.prop a specifc file linked to individual Droid 4s?

rw-r-r? How do I do that?

In adb shell or a terminal emulator type (without the quotes) "chmod 644 (filename)". And no, the build.prop file is not specific to an individual phone, but make sure if you copy one onto your phone it's from the same version you're running.

If you are running stock 215 the OTA should just be pushed to you phone if you go to setting, about phone, system updates.
