If you have been holding out for the Droid 3, and didn't pre-order already, today is the big day that they start rolling out nationwide to retailers. At Verizon, they will be $199.99 on-contract, and of course they have been available on Verizon's website for that price for almost a week already. Luckily, there are cheaper alternatives available today, and WireFly is the place to go. They now have the Droid 3 for only $149.99 on a new or renewed 2-year contract. Oddly, if you wanted to buy the phone from WireFly "off-contract" it would run you $549.99, which is actually quite a bit more than buying it straight from Verizon for $459.99. I guess they had to make up that sale-price deficit somewhere...

Here's a quick refresher of the specs:
  • 4" QHD display (960x540)
  • Dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor (it's faster than a Tegra 2)
  • 512MB RAM
  • 1080p video capture, front and rear cameras
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 5-row slide-out QWERTY keyboard
Hit the WireFly source link to snatch one up.

I guess they need to make room in inventory for Bionic in Aug.

Still stuck on which one to get, but the D3's only advantage is that it is out. I never your the qwerty hardware KB anyway.

I played with it for about a half hour this morning in store. It's really very nice, not too much bigger than the D1, screen is decent. I did not however buy it today. I'm going to hold out until the Bionic is out. Once I try that one out, I'll decide.

My contract isn't up until after August anyway and the D3 doesn't have 4G which, in my opinion, is the only thing keeping it away from it's original flagship status. I'll probably go with the Bionic from the sound of things. Hopefully they don't flop it because otherwise I might have a challenging decision to make as far as what to upgrade to.

I got some hands on at Verizon today. And I have to say that I loved the size and feel of the d3. The keyboard is fantastic. The pentile screen is bright and crisp with pixelation not an issue for me unless I put my face a couple of inches from the screen. And while I would have liked to have seen 1gb of memory, if it had been at least 4G upgradable, I would have gotten it on the spot.

Glad to hear about the screen, the step down in size of the screen should make the pixelation almost invisible. Too bad about the RAM though, I think the new standard has to be 1 GB. A year ago I would have insisted on a physical keyboard but now with swype it's not so important. 4G pfit who needs it?

512mb of RAM for the lose. Bionic will have the same tiny amount of ram, so it loses as well. Until I see dual core, at least a gb of ram, LTE, NFC, 4.5"-5" qhd NON-pentile screen, and hdmi, then I am holding off.

Just watched a couple D3 review videos on YT and I'm already seeing redraw. Smdh

And I heard the upped the Bionic's RAM to 1gb
