Re: Droid: official notes for 2.1 upgrade
I did clarify my original comment here -- easy to miss. I was only speaking about the notes. And since my information about those was so bad, please excuse me if I make no additional comments. I'm just really sorry that my error resulted in bad feelings for some Droid owners.

chill out people, the sky is not falling

Mine browses the internet ALMOST like an iPhone does :)

And when you turn the phone 90 degrees, your desktop switches to landscape mode, like your beloved iPhone?

No, it doesn't. Droid DOESN'T!

But I'm in a contract with these mofo's now, so I need this garbage to get sorted out.
The fluff is one thing, but getting a force-close on a phone call is unacceptable.
Happened three times today. Not cool. And actually makes a case for Heir Jobs' philosophy about software containment. I feel like I have a phone with a hippie OS that may or may not work when I need it most!

This thing wasn't ready for market, but they cashed our checks. Now it's up to us to hold them to it.

Mirroring the tone of your earlier post, it sounds like you have a magical Droid made of fail. I've never had any of the issues you mentioned on either of the Droids I've owned. And before you make a case against the phone based on the fact that I had to replace it -- it was a bad battery that I wanted to replace, but Verizon made me swap the entire phone out.

Android isn't perfect. There are some design decisions that boggle the mind. Either you can give the developers time to sort it out -- it's only been three months since the Droid launched, or you can find a way out of your contract or in to another phone. Either way though, anyone who expects the Droid to be 100% perfect right out of the box is fooling themselves.

Maybe you should simmer down and actually take the time to troubleshoot instead of trolling. There are some mighty helpful people on this forum that would be happy to give you all the help that they can, but if you come in with a bad attitude then the folks who would normally be helpful are going to tell you exactly where you can shove your ailing phone.

tl;dr - Act like a grownup.

On topic:

No update yet.

AMEN. FOOLS. This as any machine demands maintenance to try to perform its best or near its best. I'll patiently wait. Still no update tho.

Content EDITED By JimMariner/Admin, Slurs are not acceptable behavior on DF .lets stay on topic people:icon_eek:

OH yea.... what was the topic... oh yea.. we hate Motorola for not...........................................

I"m sure when they posted the improvements, they immediately got a ton of calls and complaints.

Just look at the questions and energy here will give you a peek to what they got.

1. I wonder if this or that is included?
2. I sure hope etc is faster!
3. Does the ____ still stutter and lag?
4. Is this all you did?
5. But what about the fluffy white clouds that float in the background?
6. my email still doesn't do this.. is that fixed?
7. Is the issue with the keyboard lighting fixed now?
8. Will my phone call my mother in law and cuss her out for me now and make it look like it came from another caller?
etc........................................................................................

I"m sure they went to survival mode and pulled it figuring once its released, no one can complain anymore and put their bid and 2 cents in....

Once that happens.... it is what it is!

What the heck!

To me this is sooooo gone overboard by nearly everyone involved with the 2.1 update. There is just so much confusion. It would be so incredibly easy for motorola to fix all of this with ONE post on one of there sites (facebook, twitter..motorola). What makes myself and Most others like me upset has nothing to do with actually getting the 2.1 update for the droid.. and everything to do with the communication from the companies that make the droid having what i would call at this point an EPIC FAIL.

this is directly relevant to 2.1 because it shows that if a company as large as motorola cant even get when its dropping, or whats in it right on a broad scale, how in the world are they going to be able to fix detailed problems that are hard to fix for this device. it shows a fundamental lack of intelligence in the higher ups that to me is almost unacceptable, but im out of luck, because like many others im not an incredibly wealthy man and so whenever i purchase a product that is hundreds of dollars with an ongoing fee while its being used and it being one of the most important aspects of your life (this might seem like an extreme statement, but honestly most of us carry our lives in our pockets these days), what are we to do? for me the answer is i cant do anything. i dont know about you guys, but that is an incredibly frustrating feeling.

I for one cannot agree more with you. If Motorola just came out with a deffinate answer yes we will see the update this week or no we wont then I will be much happier I would still be upset but what could I do. I am just angry at the fact Motorola has no accountability they have given no info as to if the update would come up just that the update details were prematurely released. And for a company to pretty much just come out with we don't care deal with it and say nothing else is unacceptable. This NEVER happened with Blackberry:blackberry:

Motorola Hi all-- we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We're happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later ...
Straight from their mouth.

Holy crap guys. It's only a friggan update. It's not going to cure cancer. My Droid works fine as it is. When 2.1 comes out, great. Until then, who cares. As others have said, you really, really wan't 2.1, root your phone!

Motorola's has no control over the release.

They can't comment on it because its not up to them. VZW has full control.

Everyone is barking up the wrong tree : )

2.1 will be released when VZW says NOT Moto

Wow, what an amazing collection of whining and complaining.

The release notes were likely posted to the production server instead of the staging server by mistake. It happens. As a project manager in IT application development, I can assure you that this mistake wasn't made to "lie" to anyone or "cheat" anyone out of what they "deserve".

You bought the phone, you got what you paid for. Future updates will provide enhancements to that, but be honest, what in 2.1 will allow you completely new functionality that you don't have today, in some form or another? What feature in 2.1 is right at this moment negatively impacting your life due to its unavailability?

Can you place phone calls? Check....send SMS/MMS? Check....browse the web and download and install apps from the Market? Check...use Google Maps/Navigation? Check...browse photos and videos in the Gallery? Check...seriously, what can you NOT do today that you will be able to do with 2.1 in some form or another?

People on these forums always assume that they are the most important customers, it doesn't matter what the forum; phones, games, recreation equipment, it's always the same. What most fail to realize is that the customer base not involved in online forums is significantly larger than those on forums. For every person here whining about how they were cheated and lied to, there are a hundred or more who have never been on a Droid forum since that day they got the Droid. Many probably have no idea that 2.1 is actually even being released anytime soon.

When it happens, it happens. If you can honestly say that you were cheated or lied to, you really need to get a grip and a life.
