it means the 2.1 source (release 1) is available now on git, appears to be a source code version control tool. The source is available from kernel.org, which is a generic Linux kernel archiver site that includes Android.

I don't think it relates directly to the droid, except that the alldroid community can now begin to roll 2.1 kernels and possibly include it in future ROMs, regardless of whenever verizon/motorola decide to do their OTA update. It might make making 2.1 stabler on the droid easier.
