Yep it's. Officially out folk's. .......... happy dance time wooooo

So released late on 1/11 gives moto a week or two to work with it, jan 22 sounds like it might actually be a feasible ota date perhaps! Either way this is kickass news.

I'm sorry for double post. I'm super ecited and posting from my droid...didn't mean to. If a mod could delete one? Its not giving me edit options to change it

Android 2.1 SDK just released to developers. I'd expect the update notification to be coming soon!

Really? In the Apple world the actual OS update is pushed to users several months after the SDK is released. I assume that this is so that developers can port their apps to the new OS, and write new appsa before users get the update.

Well I'm a new Androider, but if my quick look at the dates of when the 1.5 SDK came out (April 27, 2009) to when updates where available for devices (May 18-25, 2009), then that means there is about a 3 week window or less. My estimate of course.

Oh and who said anything about Apple?

So when 2.1 comes around will it fix the crazy copy/paste function that haunts me when I try to copy info from an email?

I really really hope so. I hate the current implementation of copy / paste on the 2.01 (Droid)

?? What do people find so off with the current copy/paste system??? It thought it was 'odd' the first few times but now I use it quite frequently and find it to be much better than the WM setup I'm used to. Anyone care to explain their frustration(s)?

Speaking from a developers standpoint (though granted, not on this platform) you all are being WAY to optimistic. 10 business days, to completely flush an OS and prep it to be pushed to (lets say) 500K devices. NOT LIKELY... Even if Moto and Verizon got it ready on their end I'll bet you anything they will wait until they have confirmation(s) from most of the developers (marketplace) that they can support the update (NOT ALL of them, but at least the most popular).

Instead of speculating a date and then being sorely disappointed (and possibly upset) when they don't meet that date why don't people just RELAX and wait for an official announcement from Verizon...

I PROMISE, your world(s) will not end just because you have to wait a week or so for the update.

With the 2.0.1 update many of us downloaded it early and it worked great, even with most of the apps "all in my case".

So will there be a time we can get an early jump and download and install it manually with the same assumptions that it will work ok with our apps?

This thread doesn't have an edit.. so I'll reword:

So whats the difference this time that we will not be able to get an early jump and download and install it manually with the same assumptions that it will work ok with our apps?

Now that would be cool. How did you all manage that with 2.0.1 (i.e. was there an invite or public beta announced through VZW)? I would def be interested in that (I run very few apps and they are all fairly common so wouldn't loose much if they didn't play nicely together).

Sorry if it seams like a dumb question. I came from AT&T and they did no such 'early' releases. You had to wait for them (and by that time I was using cooked ROMs so never effected me).

2.1 For Droid on 1/17/10

:motdroidhoriz::motdroidhoriz:Verizon will begin pushing 2.1 upgrade to Moto Droid phones on 1/17/10 if not sooner. That's exclusive information from a Senior IT Tech. I'm certain my info is 99.99% accurate just wait and see!
