Moto Charm leaks, bringing more unique form factors to Android

Motorola is notorious for producing phones with unique form factors, and if a recent leak is true, they don't plan on stopping any time soon. Engadget has received photos of alleged T-Mobile training materials for a new Android-powered smartphone called the Motorola Charm.

The Charm boasts a candybar-style design reminiscent of a BlackBerry, which is an Android first (although the OS was first shown off on a device with a similar form factor). The device is running Android 2.1 beneath an upgraded version of MOTOBLUR with scalable widgets similar to the DROID X as well as improved Facebook and Twitter integration, including "Likes" and new retweets, respectively. Little is known about the hardware except that it has a textured keyboard that looks similar to the CLIQ. The materials also bring good news for current owners of a Motorola Android device on T-Mobile, saying that "most enhancements" will be coming to both the CLIQ and CLIQ XT.

The form factor of the Charm is definitely something that we don't see much of anymore outside of BlackBerrys, so it's great to see Motorola taking a chance on another new design. It might be kind of an annoyance that the application drawer will always slide out from the side, but it looks like that decision was made to help fit widgets and icons on the already cramped screen. T-Mobile has been releasing a lot of more mainstream, mid-range Android handsets as of late. With the impending release of the Vibrant, however, they'll be reversing that trend. So, are any of you interested in the Charm?

Hmmmm interesting. Maybe they are gong after the BlackBerry crowd. Will be very interesting to see where this phone is at a year from now.
