Don't ask me why I haven't put ALL these into one Zip to help make a Miui Rom for the D3. Im still learning and having trouble porting it but this should get your mouths wet a little bit until the real thing.

All of them work without root but I don't think you'll be able to flash the lockscreen with stock recovery.

Oh ok, well I'll try these anyway. No biggie about the lock screen, I just like the look and feel of MIUI...had it on my rooted D1 for while up until I got the D3.

You don't "need" them at all. MIUI is a ROM, but devs have pulled bits and pieces out, so people can use just the launcher, music app, etc. MIUI will give your phone a more "iPhone" look to it... some people like the look, while others hate it... it's all about choice really.
