messaging sucking battery

Hi
Started 2 days ago that my stock messaging app uses as much battery as the screen.

If anyone could point me in a direction where I can figure out why and correct it, that would be greatly appreciated. I did turn off the phone to see if it would reset the issue but it did not.
Thanks

Have you tried sending an MMS within the past day? It could be stuck and be in a loop trying to send it.

Backup your texts with sms backup and restore if needed.

Then erase all messages and cache from settings, apps, messaging.

Also Motorola phones perform better if rebooted every 3 days.

Use better battery stats if you're rooted. Gives better info on usage.

Sent from my unlocked consumer edition Motorola Droid Maxx xt1080m.

Thanks for the replies.
It did send a message that way, so you're probably right about being stuck.
I thought rebooting the phone would reset it, obviously didn't.
So , I will follow the second advice, thank you.
