Market app - ignore some apps?

Is there a way to make the stock Android Market app ignore updates on selected apps I have installed? I don't want to see updates for those apps in my list of new updates.

There appears to be the new Amazon Appstore for Android.
Uninstalling an app downloaded & installed by the stock Market, and re-installing the same app via the Amazon Appstore seems to do the trick.

Is Amazon trying to give Google a run for its money by getting into the Marketplace?
