looks like froyo for droid might take longer then expected

From above:

Motorola Droid users too, will be able to get an Android 2.2 update in the near future, according to a recent company statement. Though no specific dates have been mentioned, Motorola stated that soon its users would be able to use the new version of the OS.

.

Motorola and Google say the "near future" in order to not piss anybody off. The near future could be a couple days or 1 or 2 months. But it is DEFINITELY coming to the droid soon.

July 9, 2010 ...froyo for droid. That's the word on the street...

Well, since we are not quite in the month of June yet I'm still thinking it's going to happen early June. July 9 seems like the latest date to me. I think CK is going to really be eating some humble pie on his prediction that there will not be an update for the Droid and if there is it won't be until years end. Everything I have read from the date Foryo was announced up until now is an early release. Even when Froyo was announced it was said that the first two phones to get it would be the N1 and the Droid.

someone made a good point that people are ignoring; the droid has been seen running 2.2

of course it will receive the update. but after the true fiasco of upgrading to 2.1, im not holding my breath on an OTA

One of the things people need to remember is you own a Droid, which is an Android based handset. If Motorola never releases 2.2 for your handset, you can just root and put in yourself.

Mind you, I'm not rooted, but if 2.1 was the official end of the line, I would root and put 2.2 on it.

Edit: fair enough Kellex. I say unequivocally that the current Droid will not be seeing 2.2. You can take that to the bank. : )

I'm holding you to it! Hah! dancedroid
I want a front page mention on Droid Life when the story breaks of no 2.2 for current Droid Kellex!!!!!

Hahhahaha

Let's talk about that. Again. There is no reason to compare 2.1 with 2.2. Try comparing delivery of 2.0.1 from 2.0. That was done ahead of schedule smoothly and with no issues.

People can't seem to remember that, or these people who are posting things like this all got your Droid with 2.0.1 already on it. The announcement has been made that the Droid is going to get the update, there is no doubt it will happen. Part of the "fiasco" of 2.1 was caused by the Forums, their sources, and Motorola itself. Put that all together and we ended up with 3 dates, the final one being the true date. And I wish I had a list of all the people who said that wasn't going to happen.

I don't know what day it's going to be released but I do think it will happen sooner then later. When 2.1 came out there were no major announcements made like there was with 2.2. It's suppose to be in testers hands at this point so I'm still hopeful for an early June release.

Yes, but going from 2.0.0 to 2.0.1 is only going up one tenth of a... wait, 1% of... no, wait... that stupid second decimal point throws it all off!

I haven't taken the time to go back and find it, but I know that at I/O, Google specifically mentioned the Droid. Now, that could be Google just trying to put pressure on VZW and Motorola, in which case our worst case scenario would be a pissing match where VZW and/or Moto dig in their heels. But I'd like to think Google wasn't just being passive aggressive for kicks.

It seems to me that the way Google does their updates that the significance of the decimal point isn't that important. Let's compare Blackberry for example. A major update for Blackberry was going from 4.7.161 to 5.0. That was a huge update. Comparatively speaking how big of an update was 2.0.1 to 2.1? Really wasn't that huge of an update. Fixed a couple of things, slowed the processor down to help the battery but not anything like you would expect. I would think a true major update would be 3.0, but who knows if we will ever see that?

I'm no saying you're wrong I'm simply saying that it doesn't appear to me to be as important to Google as what we are use to seeing in an update. Froyo on the other hand seems to offer so much more in improvement for the .1 worth of difference.

Oh I was just making a joke, I completely agree with you. Version numbers are only as significant as their underlying changes, at least that's the way it seems nowadays!

I for one am hoping this doesn't take forever, I got a new car and can't get my bluetooth to work. It won't upload the contact list and the connection keeps breaking and reloading every 3 minutes.....

I have read where 2.2 seems to fix a lot of bluetooth problems,,,I am keeping my fingers crossed .......
