Lookout or Wave Secure ??

I've had both, but I have since deleted Lookout. For one thing, it scans the app after the install. I don't know of any viruses Linux has so I don't know what it was scanning for.

Another thing would be my weekly email update I'd see...

August 16
-Lookout handled 1 security event.
-Virus scan completed: Files scanned: 198. Infected files found: 0. Files quarantined: 0.

Just what was that security event? It won't tell me.

I actually use both, I like the fact that Lookout has the Virus Scan and Wave Secure it has the ability to wipe or lock your phone remotely

The biggest reason I use both is for the extra security, because I have had my Droid stolen once and didn't have either and don't plan on letting it happen again

I wouldn't use either of them. They're both a form of spyware. I remember when I had Lookout, my GPS would randomly turn on during the day like someone was checking in on me. I'm not one of the crazy types that feels like the gov't is watching me, but I really felt like I was being watched. Also, in the Lookout ToS, it states that you authorize them to give your information to third parties.

I've since deleted the app and my online account.

I dont use either. If a crook pulls your sd card first thing, alot of "damage" can be done. :-(

Lookout, because I've personally had a horrible time finding my phone on the Wavesecure website. It would never lock my phone when told to, and never actually found the location.

I actually installed Lookout in class, went to the website and it found my phone within 15 seconds.

Downloaded Lookout today for the locate feature. I don’t think the virus scan is necessary and I won’t send my personal data on the web for backup. I back it up on my laptop at home.

I tested the locate feature - wasn’t even close.

While the app claims it is within 75 meters, it was in fact 1,087 meters off (using Google Earth).

I know it's free but what's the point if it doesn't work...

BTW, WaveSecure was dead on; I just hate to pay for it. But I looks I’ll have to if I want an accurate location.

UPDATE

I don’t know if Lookout continued to scan for my phone or what happened but the location is now accurate – for now?

Doesn'tlookout and wave-secure use the same exact feature to locate the phone ("use wireless networks")? I would guess that both the programs use this feature and the only way to tell your location using wireless networks would be triangulating your location. Unless gps is on and then it should be very close to your location. Im not saying wave-secure is better or lookout is better im saying i think they are both the same in terms of using the locating service. I have had both and to be honest i kept lookout, but wave secure was way better in terms of locking my phone up. Lol, it has a program that prevents you from uninstalling wave secure so you cant just uninstall without some effort. I stuck with lookout because it was nicer looking to me, and i felt wavesecure wasn't worth the couple dollar investment when i get the same service with lookout. (location) just my 2 cents....

I'm the same. But the idea of Lookout knowing where my phone is just creeps me out!
