Looking for notification app

I just switched from the blackberry to the Droid.
On my blackberry, the power light would flash in red if I had an unread text, so if I had it set on vibrate and never heard it vibrating, I could just look at the phone and if the red light flashed, I would know there is a unread text.
I have tried and tried to get my droid to do this, but it doesnt seem to be able to? Is anybody aware how to do this, or know of an application or anything that will do this for me?
So far, I am LOVING my new phone....

The original messenging service on the phone will do it....you have to go to the messesging icon and open the service and then touch "menu" (four little lines) at the bottom the phone and go to "settings" and set it up to do it.

OR

you can get the app "handcent" for free from the market. It is a better messaging system service anyway.

I just downloaded Handcent SMS, works great! I love how you can change the appearance of the texts, and how it automatically "wakes up" my phone when I get a msg. Thanks guys!!!
