Locked Out - Gmail won't work

I know this has happened for specific Droid phones in the past, but I can't seem find a solution for the RAZR online. What had happened was I locked myself out of my phone too many times and now I am asked for my google account. When I try to login using my google account, it doesn't seem to recognize it, rendering me locked out of my phone. Does anyone have a solution to this?

It seems I read somewhere that someone tried resetting their Google password on their computer, then logging in to their phone and it worked. Before you do a reset, it might be worth trying.
