Lock Screen, Pattern not appearing

So I have a specific pattern set up but it doesn't come up when my screen is locked. The device unlocks the same way as if there was no password/pattern/pin# set up, swiping the tab from left to right.
I tried going back into settings and setting up a different pattern but that didn't come up when the device was locked either.
Any ideas?

I would try a factory data reset.

i just spent 9 hours getting all my apps and settings onto my droid :/ lol

I tried using pins and passwords but every time, the lock screen would bypass the protection.
The only time it does working is when I boot up the DROID.

Ah, good old gingerbread.
Settings. Location & Security. "Screen Lock Timer." Was set to 20 minutes. Basically, even though I could lock my device, the protection (pin/pw/pattern) would only kick in after 20 minutes of inactivity.
Set it to "When display is off" and its functioning as its supposed to.
Whew, no factory reset
