LG vortex email and text notification lights

Just got wife an LG Vortex. Works fine except either I can't turn it on or there are not message or text notifcation lights. The phone makes a notification sound for email and messages, but no blinking lights.

I searched all over "settings" but was unable to find a setting.

May download "handcent SMS" to see if that helps.

Any ideas?

My sister has the LG Vortex, and as far as I know there isn't a notification light on that phone. To my knowledge and I could be wrong but I think Moto's are pretty much the only phones with the light.
