LG G3 benchmarks show little difference between 2GB and 3GB editions

When LG announced the G3, it was revealed that there were two different editions: a 16GB storage/2GB RAM edition that would be launched worldwide; and a “premium” 32GB storage/3GB RAM edition reserved (at least at first) for the South Korean market.[/FONT]
[FONT=bariol_regular]Now, we’ve reviewed the 3GB G3 and it’s a fantastic phone (you can read the whole review here), but obviously there’s a feeling that we may be being short-changed here in the UK. LG has said that the 3GB model will come to the UK eventually, but you won't find it on your network of choice: it's likely to only be available SIM-free.[/FONT]
[FONT=bariol_regular]But perhaps we – and you – shouldn’t be too upset. German site Mobile Geeks has got hold of the 3GB model and benchmarked it against the 16GB/2GB edition. The results are interesting.

[FONT=bariol_regular]To put it simply: there’s barely any difference between the models, performance-wise. In the seven benchmark tests performed (AnTuTu, Quadrant, GFXBench 3.0, 3DMark, Vellamo 3.0, Octane 2.0 and SunSpider), the 3GB G3 scored between just two and four percent higher than the 2GB G3 in all but one test (Vellamo, in which it scored eight percent higher). Both phones use the same quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor.[/FONT]
[FONT=bariol_regular]So while the 3GB G3 does perform slightly higher, the difference could not be called significant. Of course, it does come with double the amount of on-board storage too, but we’re finding smartphone storage less and less of an issue as cloud services improve. We can see 16GB being a bit tight if you want to fill your G3 will lossless Hi-Res Audio files or document your life in 4K video, perhaps – but you can always stick a microSD card in your G3 if that's the case.[/FONT]
[FONT=bariol_regular]So, the takeaway from this test is: don’t be too upset about the 3GB LG G3 being reserved for South Korea at the moment. It’s only a tiny bit better than the one you can actually go out and buy here in the UK.
