Landscape When Closed?

I could've sworn when I first activated my Droid that the display would switch from portrait to landscape mode on the Home screen whenever the phone was tilted over.... Now, however, I find it only will work on the Home screen when the slide-out keyboard is opened.

Am I smoking crack and misremembering, or what?

Missing something. It doesn't do landscape on the home screen (unless using DockRunner)

There are tons of people who speculated that the home screen rotated based on orientation when they first got the phone, but now it doesn't work anymore.

I have had an Android device since 1.1 and it has NEVER done this. I for one am glad that it doesn't.

This has been discussed a number of times so please search before posting.

Thanks!

you are smoking crack and hallucinating : )

This has been discussed ad nauseum around the web but Motorola has confirmed that the phone was not designed to go into landscape without the keyboard being deployed.....

I have a theory about this. When people first got their phone they were all excited exploring everything for the first few days. Then when they settled into it and got comfortable they finally notice that the phone doesnt go into landscape on the homescreen.

Thats why everybody that swears by it said it worked for a few days then suddenly stopped : )

Just my theory....but it makes sense : )

If you get Pandahome it will do it though.....

I'm curious about this and want to make sure I understand what's being said.

If I do the following:

  • Open a browser in portrait mode
  • Touch the navigation pane
  • Up pops the virtual keyboard
  • Turn the Droid sideways

It switches to landscape mode with the keypad inside the phone.

I'm not making this up, I just did it right now.

So am I not understanding what's going on or is my Droid special :D

No your Droid is acting correctly.

Every screen will auto-rotate based on orientation EXCEPT for the home screen.

Hate to pop the bubble... I have had my droid for 5 days... In the beginning, it did rotate to landscape on the home screen. This is absolutely true because i read about the problem and wondered why people were saying that... I have no downloaded probably 10 applications one for money, and the rest free.. It no longer rotates the home screen. I suspect it has something to do with the applications that are downloaded. But - it absolutely did rotate when new.... I should have taken a picture. And so it goes...

Got it. I read the thread more carefully and see that what's being discussed is rotating the home screen.

I still think my Droid is special :D
