Jelly Bean OTA Update Questions

I've seen a few cases where people wished they never updated from ICS to Jelly Bean. I was under the impression that after a time you have no choice, it will be automatic.

Since it's inevitable and ready to be installed on my phone, I'm looking for a simple guide to help make the transition as smooth as possible. It's my understanding a factory reset will help. Is this before or after the actual update?

I did OTA and it was terrible. However, the STOCK version seems to have better functionality, but some of the issues are still there.
Also, read my post on page two of the thread above and it will tell you how to divert the inevitable.
