I am android noob! Kinda surprised and frustrated Sammy/att didn't push the jelly bean update yet to the top android device in the market. And the news doesn't look very promising!

is it good idea to flash custom rom? which rom is most stable for att gs3 to get jelly bean update?

Flashing a custom ROM is fine depending on if you know how to do it or not... Head over to XDA Developers, they have a specific section for the ATT version of GSIII development, there you can find discussion on your specific device.
