JB install keeps failing.

It looks like it might be easier to install the leaked update then update to the latest ota. I think with the christmas leak you could still install over a temp unroot right? Im on .211 but rooted and even when I temp unroot with voodoo the update fails. I read on XDA that this new ota update looks to see if you have tampered with the bootloader and if so it stops the install.

Install failed for me too. Defrosted all vzw's junk apps, temp unrooted and haven't converted any apps to system apps that weren't already system apps. I also did not hack the hotspot. It was too slow for me while tethering on ICS so I just use wifi tether.

I'll try a fdr later. If that doesn't work, I'll just stay on the Christmas leak for a while. The Christmas leak isn't perfect but it'll do.

So correct me if I am wrong here...... I have tried unsuccessfully to install the download that is available on my phone. I can't recall how I rooted my phone before I did on
ICS. I didn't install a ROM. I unfroze all the apps, etc. etc. and have started the process of using Matt's Utility to flash the stock utility. I'm struggling to find a walk
through though. My question: Do I need to find and download ICS to put on my phone or do I just hit Option 1 on Matt's utility and that takes me back to my original OTA
despite rooting my phone?

If you're on the Christmas JB leak, flashing ICS won't work because you can't go backwards. I figured out my problem and I'm going to just give in and use the utility. I installed that damn beats audio drivers and it's a nightmare trying to get rid of all the files. I'm going to find the Christmas JB leak and fastboot using that, root and then take the OTA update. It's gonna be a long day.

I didn't get the Christmas update. But after using the Utility still nothing. Any suggestions?

Have you tried doing an FDR? I am assuming you are .211? So after the utility what are you getting? Are you still on your current os?

My whole background.

I rooted my Razr (Not a Maxx) but never flashed a ROM. I tried to update when it came out and it failed. So following advice from the forums I restored all frozen, deleted Motorola apps, etc and tried again. It failed. I then performed a compete unroot on #SU and tried again. It failed. I then tried the factory data reset, then tried to use Matt's utility which brought me back to stock. Last update failed.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frusterated

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Trying wiping cache..then another FDR. Do/Did you have bootstrap or Safestrap installed from when you rooted? Did you load beats audio? I heard some folks had problems with update because if these apps.

I finally got my phone on the official ota update. I downloaded the Christmas leak, wiped data and cache in recovery, flashed the Christmas leak, flashed the ota update, wiped dara and cache again and rebooted. I tried the utility to root my phone but it didn't work. It didn't work on the Christmas leak either so I used the Razr Blade utility and Smart Actions and it worked like a charm.

I did have a Bootstrap or Safestrap. Can't remember which one. I never downloaded Beats though. I rooted using the Eternity Project Easy Root from the xda site.

Do you think I should do what S_Cuttic did and put the Christmas Leak on my phone?

What version are you on? Go into settings-->about phone--> system version.

First, you must be fully stock, no apps frozen, deleted, disabled. No apps installed as system apps that weren't on the phone from the factory, and no mods to the system like the Hotspot hack. THEN, you MUST be sure which version you are currently running. There are TWO updates out there...one for the 6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US Ice Cream Sandwich phones and the other for the Christmas Eve (Festivus for the restofus) Jelly Bean leak version 98.72.8.XT912.Verizon.en.US. See this thread; http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-news/238906-soak-test-droid-razr-razr-maxx-tester-s-hands-files-available-now.html

If you try to install the wrong version it WILL fail.

Then, you must make sure the version you download is a good copy with no download errors.

Finally, you should at least try a Factory Data Restore and try upgrading one more time before resorting to the option below that fits your phone.

If you do all of the above and you are unsuccessful, and you ARE on .211, then it's time to do a Fastboot back to .211 and start over using the Droid RAZR Utility Version 1.82 by Matt Groff.

If you do all of the above and you are unsuccessful, and you ARE on .8, then it's time to think about soft-bricking to start over. See THIS thread http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-hacks/234837-fix-soft-bricked-after-reverting-jelly-bean-update.html for the step by step instructions. For me, I had to do this and it worked, but it was a bit hair-raising. You are essentially making the phone completely unusable for a period of time, then recovering from that state of brickdom to flash back to a working OS, then doing the upgrade. It's an extreme choice but it works.

Pyuria follow this post from Foxkat above regarding matt's utility 1.82 or this one. Which also has the Christmas jb leak.

If you're trying everything but still can't get the official JB update to install, maybe you should just flash ICS .211. You'll be bone stock just like your phone is out of the box and then you'll be able to update. That's just my opinion though. Just wipe data and cache in recovery and flash .211. You can find the file in any thread around Christmas when the JB leak came out and people had to flash back from .215 to .211.

Whatever you do, check YouTube, check the forums and read, read and read some more. It's kinda hard to completely screw up your phone to the point where it doesn't work anymore. Just make sure your battery is full otherwise you'll need to buy a special cable in order to get your phone to charge. The phone doesn't charge in recovery.

If you're completely stumped, maybe check XDA forums. Sometimes it takes fresh set of eyes to figure out what we're missing.
