Is there anyway to get a recent text widget?

I know that if you use SweeterHomes 1 or 2, a lot of the themes have a widget that shows recent text messages on the home screen. Is there a way to get this without SweeterHomes?

I use Pure-messenger. It can show texts, gmail, twitter, and facebook. You can even launch your communication apps from the widget. You can choose different views, you can skin it. It is pretty solid. See it on my screen shot below (2cnd screen from the right). It costs about 1.50 US.

It is. I tried it, but am so used to my current setup, I couldn't see training myself to use it. Also, the 4x4 didn't seem to fill the screen. Looks like its what you're looking for though..

It may not be exactly what you are looking for but you could try SMS pop-up. It gives you a pop-up window when you get a text. And you can set it to show the message in the pop-up.
