Is there any way to get non-OEM batteries to show charge/temp?

I know that since the 2.2 update, the Droid X does not allow non-OEM batteries to show their charge or battery temperature. Seems pretty lousy since I have two of them and OEM batteries are expensive.

Since we can modify so many other components of the machine, is there any hack or work-around to get it to work? Or is that just another problem due to the locked bootloader/kernel?

Same across all ROMs I've used, although I admit to not testing it purposefully on each one.

I know it didn't work on ApeX, RubiX focused, Tranquility, or DarkSlide, but I don't remember which version I had at the time. I don't remember if it worked on Fission or not. Never tried Liberty, but since most of its base is GummyJAR (as is RubiX) I wouldn't think it would.

Maybe its something in the kernel. I read that all roms use the same kernel because the moto has a locked boot loader in the x and it will only boot a signed kernel.
