Why "must there be another way"? Your gmail account is effectively the master account for the phone. Changing it out would definitely have a major impact on the device.

I could see how someone could need to change their default account. Say you got the phone and weren't exactly sure of how it works and were a little hesitant about putting your primary email in so you put your secondary email as default... now you're comfortable and want to switch your default, it should still be an option. Or you started a new venture (say a new job, or lost your job) and needed to change the email. It happens.
But I am amazed at some things people are disappointed with (i.e. Yahoo email not working great)... but I guess not everyone is a happy (long-time) gmail user:icon_ banana:.
The ONLY way to change the gmail account that your phone is linked to is by doing a factory reset. You can obviously add new email accounts, but they won't be the default one. All your apps are linked to that account, so of course they aren't going to let you switch up emails and keep those paid apps from a different email account.

Or in my case, the Verizon Wireless salesman input my username incorrectly when setting up the phone. I was asked to write down a username and password, and he actually messed up both!
So if you do a factory reset and change the gmail account, do you lose apps that have been installed? Or can you just dl them again for free (for paid ones)?
